muskegon police pipes and drums

The band was formed 2004 in Muskegon, Michigan. We perform in many functions and special events throughout West Michigan and beyond. The band includes both police and non-police persons in the spirit of highland music. We encourage you to learn more about our band. New members will be allowed to perform with the band once they have learned all of the parade sets. We also share members with other local pipe bands.

The band wears the ancient Hume tartan with the permission of the Clan Hume. This is in honor of Thomas Hume one of the civic leaders of early Muskegon. The band also wears a dark blue police-style short sleeve shirt with a shoulder patch designed specifically for the band. At this time the City of Muskegon police officers have been the major supporters of the band. We are also thankful for the FOP Charles Hammond Lodge major contributions.

If you would like to contact the band to schedule an event, parade, memorial, funeral, lessons, or any other inquiries please visit our contacts page.

From it’s formation MRPPD has focused on teaching and promoting Highland bagpiping and drumming. We teach all levels from novice to accomplished musicians from other diciplines. Some of our Officers offer private lessons by 1/2 hour and hourly rates.

Have you always had an interest in bagpipes or drumming? Are you already an accomplished piper and/or drummer? We would love to hear from you in either case. We are always looking for interested individuals to continue to join our ranks of musicians. You do not have to be Scottish or a police officer to be in the band; age, race, creed are not even a factor. As long as you can devote time to practice, go to practices and be brave enough to wear the kilt in public we want to hear from you.

Have you always wanted to learn the Great Highland Bagpipe or Highland-style Drumming? Have you been put off by the cost of learning or don’t know how to start. We can help. We offer discounted tutoring to students that are willing to join our band. We have accomplished and international musicians that we walk you through the steps to learning these instruments to get you playing with the band in no time. Tutoring is usually arranged around practice times. We meet on Mondays in Muskegon. Contact Gerry Dibble for more exact information about locations and times and hopefully we’ll see you soon!
